Beautiful perspectives about being human

My lovely friend Sue Johnston, The Infertility Advocate, commented on one of my earlier blogs about me being super human.

Beautiful perspective on being human

With all the ideas I have floating around my head and all the tasks that I am juggling at the moment, there are times when I agree with her. I MUST be super human to have the energy, the motivation and the desire to do everything that I have planned and yet …..

I am only human after all

and there are times when I need to remember this. Today is one of those times. I had another blog planned for today and then I thought I am being taught a lesson here and need to share it.

I have so many ideas rushing around my head at the moment. There is so much I want to achieve. There are so many people that I want to connect with. There are so many people I want to support in any way I can. Yet there are only so many hours in the day.

Emails have been left for a day or three un-answered. There have been delays in sending over photographs or comments not made on other peoples’ blogs. Each time I complete a task on my to do list another two or three appear in its place. I am going backwards yet don’t want to let people down. I have made a commitment and I’m darn well sure that I’m going to keep it. Yet something has to give because I need to listen to my body and give my mind a bit of a breather.

It doesn’t have to be long. An hour here or there will suffice. Time to soak in the bath in luxury bubbles rather than a quick jump in and out of the shower. A break mid-afternoon so I can read another chapter of a novel: I’ve been reading this particular book for three weeks now and it’s taken too long one chapter per evening. A quick dip in our pool. An early night. A moment or two of switching off to recharge the batteries is all that is needed as long as it happens on a regular basis.

Beautiful perspectives on being humanSo, here’s my pledge …. I accept that I am only human, after all. I acknowledge that I need to have some downtime even when my “to do list” is reaching epic proportion. I will listen to my body when it says (or should that be shouts) STOP.

It’s just turned 6:30pm here. Normally I work until about 7:30pm or even 10pm on occasions. However, tonight the “Closed” sign is going up NOW.

Not only that, my superhero costume will remain on its hanger in the morning and won’t see the light of day until after lunchtime. This flamingo needs to be human for a while!

In CANBACE friendship!

Thank you Sue. It is a challenge sometimes when I have so many ideas about other ways in which I can help the Canbace/CNBC communities. However, I know that if I want to help others it is very important to look after myself too. Your supportive comments always make me smile. I am so looking forward to the day when we finally meet in person, although I struggle sometimes to remember that we haven’t already done that. My love and respect back to you, dearest friend x
